Blue Margaritas

In honor of Aidan Matthew!
Lory's newest grandson (she's up to 3 of them)
had the good form to be born on a Thursday
so as to not disrupt Margarita Friday.
And in so doing, gave us extra reason to celebrate.
I like this kid already.

I have a couple of hints about the blue margarita.
Use Blue Curacao instead of Triple Sec.
And if you want truly blue as opposed to
the kind of green I got
( the color in the picture is way better than real life)
use a clear tequila as opposed to the golden
standard fare. That combined with the yellowish
lime juice and golden agave gave me a pretty solid
gold that when mixed with my blue
gave me art 101, green!

So, next week if I take my blue/green margarita
and put in watermelon ice cubes will
I then get
PURPLE!!??

And, can a rainbow margarita party be far behind?

Skinny Pina Coladas

If you get up early enough in the morning
you can learn things.

Channel 5 has a 4:30 AM news cast.
Relax, it's still on at 6:00 when I tune in.
Today they were making "skinny" cocktails.
The first one was a watermelon concoction that Zorida,
the host, didn't seem too impressed with.
However, when she tried the Pina Colada one her reaction was
such that I decided to give it a try.

The funniest thing Mike has ever said to me was a few years back.
It was 10 AM
and we were on Grand Cayman Island.
Someone asked him what time it was and he responded,
"I believe it's Pina Colada time."
If you know Mike,
you understand how funny that statement coming
from his mouth truly is.

This is why I love to give my man a Pina Colada,
but those babies have about a bazillion calories.
And seeing as how he is not one to drink alone, he does not
get his pina colada on very often.

These were a cinch to make.
It's just equal parts frozen pineapple and coconut water, not milk
which is the part that will do you in.
We added some coconut rum and had us a little
taste of vacation right in balmy St. Chuck.

Now given this is what I learned at 6,
imagine what sorts of things they are sharing at 4:30

White Sangria

It would appear we drank about half of it before I thought to ask
Lory to get a picture of it.
Makes sense.

I got clearance from the mother-to-be to serve an adult
drink option at her baby shower.
White Sangria seemed like the perfect choice for a mid-day
gathering.

A friend of mine sent me her recipe and as I sat to write
this I thought to compare it to the recipe I already had.
Yep, EXACT same one!
So, it appears there is just one white sangria recipe out
there and the good news is, that's all we need.
It's really good.

The first time I made it I realized that all the
rum goes to live in the fruit.
My mother-in-law ate the fruit with a slotted spoon.
Truth.

So here's the recipe:
1 bottle white wine
1 can frozen lemonade concentrate
1/2 cup light rum
1/2 cup triple sec
1 15 oz can pineapple tidbits in juice
1 large apple, diced
2 cups chilled soda such as 7-up
(I used ginger ale because it's what I had)

Mix it all together but add the soda just before serving.

Lory said this might just be a margarita alternative.
High praise indeed!
